Omowale K. Crowder

A Prevention Advocate for the eastside’s Community For New Directions, Omowale K. Crowder specializes in teaching youth peaceful conflict resolution through the Young Ambassadors for Peace (YAP) program and poetry workshops focused on self-expression and channeling emotions. He wrote and performed a tribute poem at Johnson Park Middle School honor roll assembly for Harold McClure, a veteran teacher.
Currently he directs the Vision Counsel, a city-wide team of youth who work to eliminate street violence. Their latest project is a “Youth Art” event, conveying the message of nonviolence to peers. While most of his work reflecting on the prevalence of societal violence, he has performed at the Apache Café in Atlanta, at venues in Milwaukee WI, and as a feature at Poets in Winter at The Ohio State University. He attributes his start as a poet to his weekly Wednesday performances at the Poet’s Lounge at Columbus’ Snaps & Taps.
An integral member of in8 inner-prizes, Omowale K. Crowder helps produce and stage a monthly event series: The Alternative Renaissance of Talent, The ART, featuring the best of local culinary, visual, oratory, musical, and performance arts at Long Street Live.
