08/07/2006 Archived Entry: Workshop

Last night my first workshop went relatively well. My first victims were Dave Noble and Dan Thress and they were smart enough to bring multiple poems. (Anyone slated for future workshops, bring at least two poems.) The venue was not quite right, but I'll use it until I figure out something better. I gave them a hand-out, but I think I can beef that up now too.

Also, I'm going to throw together an "assignment" sheet. These are quick assignments to get a person into thinking about poetry and language.

More thoughts as they arrive.

The workshop was well worth it! As usual you were able to get to get me to focus my writing. I am grateful for the the advice and direction.
I have to say it was also fantastic to have an opportunity to get to know Dan a bit better.
Your next victims are lucky.

It was a pleasure to work with you and Dan.

I had a great time and I learned a lot. Two poets seemed "right" I thought. It was a great hang as well.

Your suggestions and Dave's encouragement opened up so many possiblities that I sort of changed direction on "Saints Across the Waters." Now I may have to go back to what we had on the table. Anyway, that's a compliment. It's interesting when "dead poems" suddenly gain some life again. Very cool.

I liked two things about the "venue:" the ability to buy coffee, and to sit outside. It could have been quieter I suppose. Wondering about that place on 3rd ave and King, I think.

Dave, I was supposed to ask you about a Euchre game this month. We have to wait until Joanna gets back.

I'm having Joanna over for euchre after she gets back. But she needed a partner. Is this about that? Or are there more euchre events in store?

On another note, I definitely thought two was the right number. Anymore and it would be way too workshop like and not enough attention by far.

I was thinking about a future euchre tournement. I know Dave and Joanna play, and this must mean you do too.

On another note, I think I just finished "Saints." Yeah.

O, good -- on both counts.

"Saints" had a big topic -- and an evocative one.
