10/24/2005 Archived Entry: I think the coffee has worn off now
The Peripatetic Poets reading last night went well. At first there were very few people, but more trickled in and it was a good small number (like 10 to 15) -- it was a good number especially because it included a couple of my friends, Donielle Johnson and Scott Woods. I read first:
Teaching My Daughter My Language
Sin-Eater
Day Four
Donating Blood
Hello Pen
Penelope to Her Loom (30 Years Later)
Helen to the Sea
Eve's Curse
Raised Whitely (I Got a Red Dress)
Locust Pods
Apparently Penelope and Helen still have some mojo left in them. I think I could have brought out The Laurel Tree too. Poof, dust flies. You know I slammed Helen once and made it to the second round. I think that one will usually have something going for it.
The night was dedicated to Dr. David Citino, a Columbus poet who recently passed away. I had not known Citino, and so related some thoughts regarding how special a person is, who can see the possibility in others and added that it was Mary Kim who told me he saw her potential. Ah. Hm. Everyone appreaciates Mary Kim now and seemed to thank Citino for appreciating her then.
Scott Minar read second and started off with a poem by Paul Celan, one of my favorites. It was one of Celan's most famous poems. There is a local poet Susann Moeller with whom I read in July who is a native German speaker who read some of the Celan for us in the original. Wow.
In the open mic portion, my friends impressed the group, of course. Scott read "Woodsmen" and Donielle read a poem called "Housewarming" (I think that's the title). Clearly, it was a night for me and my friends especially since I count Minar as one of my friends as well. Look how greatness surrounds me!
About the coffee, I had this coupon and no cash really on me so I used the coupon for a free cup of coffee and started on the caffeine from that and refills. I can get to sleep ok whatever the amounts of chemicals, but there I was awake at 3:00 am *blink blink*, 4:00 am *blink*, 5:00 and so on. Now at work it is all worn off and I've got a couple news items to churn out.
Notice Regarding Today's Poem
Today's poem will not be posted until after Wednesday. I have it all in my head now and it is a special event poem to be performed on Wednesday, the last Writers' Block night at Skambo [ link to Scott's write up about his night ]. I will have to stretch out and swig a slug of whiskey before I do it. I hope it is as good as I imagine it to be. I plan also to be Darth on Wednesday, unless that is bumped for something else.

Louise you did a wonderful job last night. I really enjoyed your selection of poems. I was very impressed with your pieces dating back to the younger you. Dust them off and keep them coming! YOU WERE GREAT!!

We should have been there! Our loss. glad it went well. Looking forward the Darth.
BTW, you had a nice turnout. I looked in on the Music Hall Sat night and there were 3 people in the audience and four in the band.
I don't know why I'm rooting against music and for poetry, but I am. Nice victory.

You did great! I can't wait to see what you're doing Wednesday. Whatever it is, it'll be unique as hell, as always. Unique goes a LONG way with me.

I just got it out of my head and put it on the page -- what there is of it that can be written, at least. Let's just say it's different for me.
Now for a new Darth Vader poem...

Damn, I am so mad I wasn't there to hear you. Now I'm slotted to teach Mondays Winter term so F@#)($* H@(*$S, I won't be able to be there at Larry's on my birthday. I'm aiming for early December though, and I'll let you know the moment I do. Snow and Andrew and kids....
So looking forward to seeing you Thanksgiving!
There are no words for the end of Skambo's WB, not for me. None. Not words, just choice words.
Too many endings. Ellipse please....
Hugs,

Not the end. It's not the end. (I hope.) I'm sure Scott and Vernell will find the perfect venue. Scott said last week nothing is ever the same -- it changes anyway.
The feature in Dec. is the first Thursday, Dec. 1. The day after that is a jazz slam courtesy of Shaun Barber and I plan to go to that too.

Great to have specific dates to target--otherwise, it gets waylaid beneath all the family priorities.
Okay then.

I hope to see you right before that -- over Thanksgiving.
