06/05/2005 Archived Entry: Arts Fest
How did the arts fest slam go? I thought it was a great show and the audience seemed to really get into it. Mary Kim was there (yea!) and said the crowd about doubled. Scott Woods picked a good range of people. Stevi Meredith, Rose Smith, and Vernell Bristow brought some "chops" to the event. Andy Peterson seems to be becoming a stronger reader of his work (yea!). One of the softer poets, I had a running battle with the microphone and wish I could have performed better. Outdoors is a difficult venue. What I would give to have a little of what Stevi has in the projecting department.
One interesting thing about it was the presence of two additional local heavy weights on the Columbus poetry scene, Jennifer Bosveld and Steve Abbott. Jennifer read before everyone and Steve read in between sets. This slowed the pace of the slam a little -- probably a good thing because the slam was rolling along and would have gone by too fast otherwise.
