05/27/2004 Archived Entry: SFO Poetry Reading Sum Up

It went well. The venue was the most challenging one I've read in vis a vis acoustics. All the sound slid up the side of a sound damping glass wall on the mall side. It was a nice, if small, crowd. The open mic portion at the end gave me a chance to hear a couple new (to me) voices and a couple old favorites.

My playlist was expanded due to an expanded time slot:
→ First three stanzas of Lovesong of J. Alfred Proofrock by TS Eliot
This is My Love Song
An Untitled Poem
The Age Hormone
The Plagiarist Speaks
My Premise: Ghosts Are Left By the Living
Does Anyone Know -- My Husband's Mortality
Kiss Me Again -- Now I'm talking About Addition, Now I'm Talking About Sex

And a reprise:
After the Collapse of a Building

There also seems to be a new fan hanging around, Sean. A college student at Wright State, he was also a walk in and we talked a little. He must have had a pre-existing interest in poetry and poetry readings because he then approached the organizer, Mary Kim, and got put in touch with one of the Writers' Block organizers, Vernell Bristow. I won't be surprised if I see him at the next WB open mic.
